Career Highlights:
2002 - At age
8 Nick began his racing career in
go-karts. He would accumulate 16 feature
wins and the Junior Sportsman
championship at Hamlin Speedway. Mid-way
through 2002 Nick began competing in the
Junior Slingshot by Tobias division,
Nick compiled 4 feature wins, and a 4th
place finish in the points standings.
2003 - Nick's
focus would be on the highly competitive
Junior Slingshot division. It was a
great 1st season as Nick put together 18
feature wins and the Junior Slingshot
Championship
2004 - Again
the focus was on the Junior Slingshot by
Tobias Division. Nick would compile 16
more feature victories and a second
Junior Slingshot Championship. During
2003 Nick also competed in a number of
the Slingshot Senior tour races,
preparing him for 2005. Nick had many
top ten's and finished 6th in the Senior
Slingshot National standings, this would
also earn him the Open Wheel Racers.com
Driver of the Year award.
2005 - Nick's
first full season with the Senior
Slingshots would render him an
impressive 4 feature victories, 3rd
place in points at the highly
competitive Hamlin Speedway, and 5th in
points on the Slingshot by Tobias
National tour.
2006 - After
one full season and 5th in the National
points for 2005, Nick's focus was now on
the National title. Nick ran 39 races
accumulating 9 wins, 34 top 10's, and 29
top 5's. Nick would become the youngest
National champion ever at age 14. Nick
also finished a strong 2nd in the mid-atlantic
tour points, and 2nd in the Hamlin
Speedway points standings. This is also
the year he would earn the nickname
"Nitro" Nick.
2007 - After
becoming the National Slingshot champion
in 2006, Nick was now attempting to
become the first back to back champion
and would once again compete in the
weekly points program at Hamlin
Speedway. Nick competed in 43 races and
compiled 11 wins, 40 top 10's,and 29 top
5's. He became the Hamlin Speedway track
champion, the Hamlin Speedway home track
challenge champion, 2nd in mid-altlantic
tour points, and 2nd in the National
championship points standings just 5
points shy of becoming the first back to
back champion.
2008 -
At the age of only 16, the next
progression in Nick's successful racing
career would be the SpeedSTR open wheel
series. Nick would earn the 2008
SpeedSTR series championship along with
a series high, 3 victories and 8
podiums. Nick adapted to these 1200
pound 250 hp open wheel racecars very
quickly. This series competed on both
dirt and asphalt, on tracks ranging from
a 1/4 mile to 5/8 mile, and reaching
speeds in excess of 120mph.
With Nick's success in the SpeedSTR
series and his father's background in
the asphalt modified tour, Nick's
sponsors have decided to set him up in
an asphalt modified to compete on the weekends
off from the STR series for the
remainder of the 2008 season.
